Teresa Lin withdraws from House District 49 race, Sara Fuchs to carry the campaign forward.
Teresa Lin announced today that she is withdrawing from the race for Georgia House District 49 due to a health issue that needs her full attention, and is endorsing Sara Fuchs to run in her place.
“This wasn’t an easy decision, but I have to put my health first right now,” Lin said. “Over these past months, I’ve watched so many people in this district fight hard for a seat that’s been held by the same person for decades, knocking doors in the heat and showing up again and again. Sara Fuchs is one of those people. With no time to waste and less than 80 days until the election, I’m asking everyone who knocked a door for me or gave a dollar to me to do the same for Sara Fuchs.”
Fuchs said she does not take the responsibility lightly. “Teresa built something real here in just a few months, and I’m honored to carry that work forward. Now it’s my responsibility to earn the trust she’s placed in me. I have the energy, enthusiasm, and experience to build on what she started and take this campaign across the finish line.
“For 23 years, Rep. Chuck Martin has held this seat while our rights have eroded. It’s harder to vote, harder for women to access reproductive healthcare, and our public schools still aren’t receiving the support they deserve. We can do better, and we must do better. I’m ready to work as hard as I can, bring people together, and do everything in my power to flip this seat in November.”
Fuchs brings six years of legislative experience inside the State House as Chief of Staff to Rep. Betsy Holland, and managed her winning re-election campaigns in 2020 and 2022. She’s worked as an academic librarian at Georgia State, Georgia Tech, and Emory University, where she managed digital initiatives, led collaborative projects, and helped preserve and make accessible the stories and knowledge held in our communities. She channeled that same drive as PTA president and Fundraising Chair at her children’s Title 1 schools, where she prioritized raising and allocating funds so that no need was unmet and no child did without.
She began her career in politics as a key volunteer on Rep. Holland’s 2018 campaign, which flipped the neighboring Buckhead and Sandy Springs seat for Democrats for the first time in a generation, part of a broader shift toward competitiveness across North Fulton.
Fuchs has earned the endorsement of WIN List, Georgia's PAC dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic women, and Fighting 50, a PAC dedicated to providing support to Democratic House candidates running across the state of Georgia.
